Everyone faces mental health challenges, but men are often less likely to speak up or get help. At Daymark Recovery Services, we want to change that. Men face a lot of pressure - taking care of their families, working hard, and trying to meet what the world expects of them. At the same time, many feel like they have to act tough and hide how they really feel. All of this can lead to serious problems like depression, anxiety, using drugs or alcohol, or even thoughts of suicide.

Avery County, NC — Daymark Recovery Services is honored to announce a $25,000 donation from Steve Smith, Sr. to help fund medications for uninsured and underinsured individuals in Western North Carolina. The contribution was presented at a special event on May 14 in Avery County and will directly support Daymark’s ongoing efforts to improve access to behavioral health treatment in Alleghany, Avery, Ashe, Watauga and Wilkes Counties. In addition to the gift from Mr. Smith, his foundation, the Steve Smith Foundation, donated hygiene kits and first aid kits.
At Daymark Recovery Services, we believe mental health is the foundation of a healthy, thriving community. As we enter April—recognized as Stress Awareness Month—we are reminded of the growing importance of addressing both stress and mental well-being in our daily lives.
Stress is often called the "silent killer" because it can slowly wear down both physical and emotional health. From tight deadlines and financial pressures to caregiving responsibilities and health concerns, stress can show up in many forms—and left unchecked, it can contribute to anxiety, depression, heart disease, and burnout.
