Steve Smith, Sr. Donates $25,000 to Daymark Recovery Services to Support Medication Access in Western NC
Avery County, NC — Daymark Recovery Services is honored to announce a $25,000 donation from Steve Smith, Sr. to help fund medications for uninsured and underinsured individuals in Western North Carolina. The contribution was presented at a special event on May 14 in Avery County and will directly support Daymark’s ongoing efforts to improve access to behavioral health treatment in Alleghany, Avery, Ashe, Watauga and Wilkes Counties. In addition to the gift from Mr. Smith, his foundation, the Steve Smith Foundation, donated hygiene kits and first aid kits.
These gifts will be used to ensure that individuals in need—particularly those facing serious mental health or substance use challenges—can access prescribed medications critical to their recovery and wellness, regardless of their ability to pay.
“We are incredibly grateful to Steve Smith, Sr. for his unwavering commitment to behavioral health,” said Billy West, President and CEO at Daymark Recovery Services. “This donation will help bridge a vital gap in care for those who may otherwise go without treatment.”
This is not the first time Mr. Smith, the Steve Smith Foundation and Daymark have worked together to address critical mental health needs in North Carolina. The Steve Smith Foundation, Daymark, Alliance Health and Mecklenburg County work together to support a Behavioral Health Urgent Care (BHUC) facility in Charlotte, where Daymark provides 24/7/365 crisis services. With this most recent donation, Mr. Smith, the Steve Smith Foundation, Daymark and Vaya Health are working together to make sure people have access to life changing medications. These partnerships are a model for how public and private collaboration can improve health outcomes in our communities.
Daymark Recovery Services operates across 47 locations in North Carolina, including several in Western North Carolina, delivering a full spectrum of behavioral health services. The organization remains committed to ensuring that all individuals, regardless of income or background, have access to quality care.
